These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Kleio mobile application (the "App," "Service"), operated by Dimitris Konomis, an individual developer trading as Kleio ("Kleio", "we", "us", or "our"). By creating an account, downloading, or using Kleio, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

1. Eligibility & accounts

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, if higher) to create a Kleio account. Kleio is an adult-facing app: the account holder is expected to be an adult, and any use by a child — including the Fairytale/Kids content mode — is expected to happen under the supervision of the adult account holder, such as a parent reading or playing a story for a child. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account and for all activity under it.

2. Description of the service

Kleio lets you generate interactive, AI-assisted stories from your own prompts and choices, organize them in a personal library, play them as narrated audio, and export or share finished stories. Some features (Quick stories, limited weekly generations) are available for free; others (unlimited quick stories, multi-chapter long-form books, AI-generated covers, photo-to-story) require a Kleio Premium subscription. We may add, change, or remove features at any time.

3. Subscriptions, trials & billing

  • Kleio Premium is offered as an auto-renewing subscription (billed weekly or monthly, as shown at purchase) and may include an introductory free trial. Pricing is set and displayed by the App Store or Google Play at the time of purchase.
  • Subscriptions are billed and managed entirely through Apple's App Store or Google Play Billing, and are governed by their respective terms in addition to these Terms.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel your subscription through your App Store or Google Play account settings — Kleio cannot cancel it on your behalf.
  • If a free trial is offered, any unused portion is forfeited when you purchase a subscription, where applicable.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their respective refund policies; we do not directly process refunds for App Store or Google Play purchases.
  • Kleio may also offer one-time, non-subscription purchases (such as a pay-as-you-go photo-upload credit), which are consumed as described in the App at the time of purchase.

4. Your content & license to us

You retain ownership of the original prompts, custom choices, and other text you personally write into Kleio ("Your Input"). To operate the Service, you grant Kleio a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, process, and transmit Your Input and the resulting AI-generated story content — including sending it to our AI provider — solely to provide, maintain, and improve the Service for you (for example, generating the next story beat, narrating it, or exporting it). This license ends when you delete the relevant content or your account, except where retention is needed as described in our Privacy Policy.

AI-generated story text is produced by an automated system in response to Your Input. We make no claim of authorship over AI-generated output beyond what is necessary to operate the Service, and we do not guarantee that any AI-generated content is unique or free of similarity to other works.

5. AI-generated content disclaimer

Kleio's stories, narration, and cover art are generated by artificial intelligence and are works of fiction, provided for entertainment purposes only. AI-generated content may occasionally be inaccurate, nonsensical, biased, or contain material some readers find objectionable, despite the content moderation and genre-based safeguards we apply (with stricter filtering for Fairytale/Kids mode). Kleio does not review every generated story before it reaches you. You are responsible for exercising your own judgment about what you read, listen to, or share — including deciding what is appropriate to read or play aloud to a child.

6. Content guidelines & prohibited uses

You agree not to use Kleio to generate, upload, or attempt to generate:

  • Sexual content involving minors, in any form — this is always and absolutely prohibited, with no exception.
  • Content that sexually exploits, endangers, or exposes real children, or that solicits or targets a minor.
  • Instructions or explicit detail intended to facilitate self-harm, suicide, or serious real-world violence.
  • Hate speech, or content that promotes discrimination or violence against individuals or groups based on a protected characteristic.
  • Content that harasses, defames, or impersonates a real, identifiable person without consent.
  • Illegal content, or content promoting illegal activity.
  • Uploaded photos of anyone other than yourself without that person's consent, or any unlawful, abusive, or exploitative imagery.
  • Attempts to bypass, disable, or interfere with content moderation, rate limits, or other safeguards.

Genre-appropriate dark themes (tension, fear, non-graphic peril or violence) are permitted in adult genres and are part of normal genre fiction — the restrictions above target genuinely harmful or unlawful content, not mature storytelling.

7. Moderation & enforcement

We use a combination of automated moderation and, where necessary, manual review to enforce these guidelines. If we determine, in our reasonable judgment, that content or an account violates these Terms, we may remove or block content, disable features, suspend, or terminate the account involved, with or without notice, and where required by law, report the conduct to the appropriate authorities.

8. Our intellectual property

The Kleio name, logo, mascot ("Hoot"), app design, and underlying software are owned by Kleio/Dimitris Konomis and protected by intellectual property laws. Except for the limited rights expressly granted to use the App, no rights are granted to you in our trademarks, branding, or software.

9. Third-party services

Kleio relies on trusted third-party service providers to operate, as described in our Privacy Policy, and is distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play. Your use of the App is also subject to the applicable platform's own terms of service and usage rules.

10. Disclaimers

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT AI-GENERATED CONTENT WILL MEET YOUR EXPECTATIONS OR BE FREE OF OBJECTIONABLE MATERIAL.

11. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, KLEIO AND ITS OPERATOR SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, REVENUE, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP. TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE APP SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US, IF ANY, IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE. NOTHING IN THESE TERMS LIMITS LIABILITY THAT CANNOT BE LIMITED UNDER APPLICABLE LAW.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Kleio and its operator from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your violation of these Terms, your content, or your misuse of the App.

13. Termination

You may stop using Kleio and delete your account at any time from Settings. We may suspend or terminate your access to the App if you violate these Terms, or discontinue the Service in whole or in part with reasonable notice where practicable. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Your Content & License, AI-Generated Content Disclaimer, Disclaimers, Limitation of Liability, and Governing Law) will survive.

14. Changes to the Service or these Terms

We may modify the App or these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes to these Terms, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you in the App. Continuing to use Kleio after changes take effect means you accept the revised Terms.

15. Governing law & disputes

These Terms are governed by applicable law, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the App will be resolved in accordance with the laws and courts applicable to your place of residence, except where mandatory consumer-protection law provides otherwise.

16. Miscellaneous

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Kleio regarding the App.
